Get to know your instructor
Who am I?
My name is Rob and I have been climbing since 2009. I first started on adventurous training courses in the cadets. This led me to start an outdoor degree when I was 18.
Qualifying in a number of sports, I have enjoyed freelancing for various companies alongside other careers, including running my own driving instructor business for several years.
I am now a fully-qualified Rock Climbing Development Instructor (RCDI) and Mountain Leader (ML), and enjoy taking clients climbing across Northwest England, both indoors & outdoors. It has been an epic journey so far and I look forward to seeing where it takes me!
What are your qualifications?
I am a Rock Climbing Development Instructor (RCDI). & Mountain Leader (ML). This means I am qualified to instruct and supervise groups both climbing & Walking in various terrain in the UK. I can teach climbing fundamental skills all the way through to lead climbing, and I am able to supervise CWIs, CWDIs and RCIs.
The RCDI qualification certifies that an instructor can help clients on their journey from their first climb right up to lead climbing using sport or traditional techniques.
Each of my qualifications are gained through Mountain Training England and are based on:
a log book of experience to a certain ability level
professional training
meeting consolidation requirements that include practice, shadowing other instructors & working with volunteers
Assessment of personal abilities and working with clients selected by the assessor over several days
I am very proud to hold these awards, which is evidence of my accumulation of professional experience and personal development.
Where do I see myself in 5 years?
I have completed my Winter Mountain Leader training (WML trainee) and will be looking to do my Mountain & Climbing Instructor (MCI) award to take people sea cliff climbing and multipitch climbing!
Ultimately, I am looking forward to more adventures and meeting lots of awesome people to share them with!
