Sport Climbing

Sport climb is an ideal next step for those who have prior experience leading indoors but haven’t yet picked up the technical know-how specific to this type of climbing. Sport climbing does not require as much knowledge of rope work as outdoor trad climbing and minimises risk because bolts are pre-placed.

What happens on the day?

As with all Essential Climbing sessions, we start with a conversation beforehand in which we work out what you hope to gain from the session. I need to know what your experience is, but also what you are looking to achieve. From here, I can assess your needs and select a venue that suits you best.

The day will start by meeting at an agreed upon location and walking to the venue. Please note that we will be at the venue all day and there may be no facilities nearby.

Throughout the day, I will help you progress through your previously discussed objectives and leave you with more confidence than before.

We can cover:

  • the use of guidebooks

  • lead climbing

  • belaying bottom ropes or lead

  • re-threading and lower offs

  • any other aspects of sport climbing that you’re unsure about
